The Hammar H20 Hydrostatic Release Unit (HRU)

is a maintenance-free, automatic release device designed for liferafts accommodating 6 to 150 persons.

When submerged to a depth of approximately 4 meters (13 feet), the hydrostatic pressure activates the internal knife, cutting the double-looped rope and releasing the liferaft, which then floats free and inflates automatically.
As the painter line tightens, the Red Weak Link (with a breaking strength of 2.2 ± 0.4 kN) separates, allowing survivors to board the fully deployed raft.
